The Rebel Thumb Farm Circle
Week of March 15, 2026
Hello Rebel Thumb Farm Circle members!
First things first—my apologies for being a little incognito these past few weeks. The farm has been buzzing and we’ve been happily buried in the kind of work that leaves dirt under your fingernails and a big smile on your face. Our biggest recent adventure? Filling our growing beds with over 10 yards of beautiful organic soil. That’s a lot of wheelbarrows! I’m especially glad we were able to bring in such great soil to share with our members as well. Good soil makes everything better—plants, harvests, and the farmer’s mood. Tai Nguyen managed to fill 3 yards - that's 40 bags of 2 cu. yards each! Way to go, Tai.
Spring energy is definitely building around here and the planting has officially begun!

🍈 Did You Know? — Meet the Galia Melon
The Galia melon is a sweet, juicy hybrid melon with a netted rind like a cantaloupe and smooth, light-green flesh inside. Its flavor is often described as the best of both worlds—a blend of cantaloupe and honeydew with subtle tropical or vanilla notes.
Characteristics
-
Appearance: Yellowish-green netted rind with pale green flesh
-
Flavor: Sweet and complex—cantaloupe meets honeydew with tropical hints
-
Texture: Juicy and succulent
- Galia melons are delicious fresh, in fruit salads, blended into smoothies, or even paired with prosciutto. They’re also rich in vitamins A and C, fiber, and potassium, with no fat or cholesterol.
How to tell when one is ripe:
Trust your nose! A ripe Galia melon has a sweet aroma and a slight softness to the skin. Unlike some melons, ripeness isn’t judged by the stem end. Store it at room temperature until cut, then refrigerate.
